Seaburn Classic Car Show 2016

Well it Rained. And Rained. Then it rained some more.  By the time we arrived (around 9.00 A.M.) at Seaburn, plan B had already been put in place by the organisers (Sunderland and District Classic Vehicle Society).  The ground was nigh on waterlogged, the Council had kindly been on site the previous week installing a new footpath and several clubs had already rung to cancel due to the wet conditions (including, interestingly, a local group of Greenlaning Land Rover Enthusisats!).  We were not to occupy our original pitch but we were allocated a new spot and asked to "sort yourselves out, there should be plenty of room".

Others started to arrive and we lined our cars up, and marvelled at the various and wondrous waterproofing techniques on show, from those with luxurious custom-made tonneau covers to those of us sporting blue plastic tarpaulins fresh from B&Q.  As Nigel had never before previously used the hood on his car, I can understand him using the tarpaulin "just to be safe" but I do think he could have let Linda alight from the vehicle first!   Nobody was made more welcome than Alan, or perhaps it was his gazebo that was welcome, and as we all huddled inside it to escape from the rain I think we may well have set some sort of record.  It was cosy to say the least.

Nevertheless we had a good turnout of vehicles - 10 including a guest from the local RHOCAR group - and shortly after lunch the torrential rain turned to intermittent drizzle and there was an opprotunity to enjoy the rest of the vehicles on show.  We were briefly entertained by a passing Volvo when there was a loud "BANG" as his suspension gave way, quickly followed by a "CRASH" as he slewed into an unsuspecting bus shelter.  Fortunately nobody was hurt and the vehicle was recovered, presumably to live another day.

Despite the wet start we had a very enjoyable day out, and our hosts seemed grateful that we'd braved the conditions and turned up.
